Rest Easier™ ("us", "we", or "our") operates the Rest Easier™ (the "product"), through the Rest Easier™ website (the "Service").

Rest Easier™ is New Zealand’s first rental rating site for tenants and flatmates. We provide a place to help them make informed decisions about rental properties they and their pets wish to apply to live in.

This privacy statement outlines what personal information we collect, how we store, use and share it, and how you can access or correct your personal information. We are committed to protecting your privacy when you visit our website, use our service or contact us in any way.

We deal with your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 and this privacy statement.

We will not use or share your information with anyone as described in this Privacy Policy.

We use your Personal Information for providing and improving the Service. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. Information Collection And Use


If you access any of our services (including responding to surveys, contacting us, signing up for our newsletters), we will collect some or all of the following personal information:

  • Your name, display name and contact details.
  • Age, gender ethnicity and any other demographic information you provide to us.
  • Rental housing rating information.
  • our comments.
  • Survey results and responses when you participate in any of our surveys.
  • Any correspondence with Rest Easier™ staff.
  • Website activity.
  • Transaction history.
  • Any other information you choose to provide us.


Collectively, this is known as your "personal information".

*Note: We do not store credit card or bank account details. Credit card details provided online are captured directly by a Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard compliant payment provider.

Using your personal information


In order to deliver our services, we use your personal information in the ways set out below. If we need to use information in a way not outlined below, we will only do so if required or permitted by law or with your authorisation.
We use your personal information to:

  • Provide you with any products and services you request or sign up for.
  • Set up or administer your membership.
  • Contact you to clarify details about your membership, or to respond to any of your enquiries.
  • Invoice you, or receive payment from you, for any of our services that require payment.
  • Conduct market research surveys if you opt-in to receive Rest Easier™ surveys.
  • Tell you about our new products, services, promotions and campaigns. For example, if you are opted-in to email marketing communications we may email you to let you know about new content you may be interested in.
  • Provide you with information about the operation and security of our websites.
  • Contact you to advise you of changes to our terms and conditions, services or new products or promotions.

Comments and community contributions


We don’t use any identifying information in the comments section. When you submit a comment or review, Rest Easier™ check to ensure it meets our standards, namely:

  • No name calling
  • No bullying
  • Informative, so others can see any progress on any issues
  • Respectful

We do not publicly display any other personal information on our website. We strongly advise that you do not post your email address, home address, phone number or other personal information.

Sometimes, we might want to use the messages you post in our site for marketing material. If so, we will endeavour to get your permission before copying or quoting your message, however, no identifying information will be used.

Sharing your personal information


We do not sell or rent your personal information to any third party. However, we do share your personal information with trusted third parties that work on our behalf to deliver our services to you (such as for computing and storage purposes, for email correspondence and marketing purposes).

Third parties, some of which are based overseas, which we share your personal information with include:

  • LittleMonkey, our cloud hosting and computing infrastructure provider
  • Survey Gizmo, and occasionally Survey Monkey, to send you our surveys.
  • Stripe, our payment gateway provider.
  • Google Analytics and Google Ad Manager, for targeted advertising.
  • Social Media Platforms (Facebook and Instagram), for targeted advertising.

We do not authorise third parties to use or disclose your personal information except for the purpose of providing the service we request from them. All third parties, which we disclose your personal information to, are subject to obligations under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 to protect your information from unauthorised use or disclosure.

We do not share your personal information with any overseas providers which are not subject to the New Zealand Privacy Act. If we were to do so, we would obtain prior authorisation from you before we disclose it to any such third parties. We do not sell aggregated survey results to third parties.

Retention


We retain personal information only for as long as we need it in order to continue to provide you with our service(s), maintain the security of our websites or as required by law.

Cookies


Cookies are files with small amount of data, which may include an anonymous unique identifier. Cookies are sent to your browser from a web site and stored on your computer’s hard drive.

We use "cookies" to collect information. You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, if you do not accept cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of our Service.

Service Providers


We may provide links to third parties e.g. moving companies, cleaning companies etc. We can’t be responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such other websites or services. You should review their privacy policies and terms of use. These third parties do not have access to your Personal Information unless you provide it to them.

Security


The security of your Personal Information is important to us, but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your Personal Information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

You can help us by taking precautions to protect your personal information when you are on the Internet and only disclose information that you want made public. Change your passwords often using a combination of letters and numbers and make sure to use a secure web browser.

Our Service may contain links to other sites that are not operated by us. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that third party’s site. We strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of every site you visit. We have no control over, and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies or practices of any third-party sites or services.

Your privacy rights


Rest Easier™ NZ members can change their information on resteasier.net by entering your email address and password and updating your profile. Alternatively, you can contact us at connect@resteasier.net

You have the right to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you. When any such request is received, we will process your request as soon as possible and provide you with our decision on your request within 20 working days after your request. We will also take steps to verify your identity before providing you with any requested personal information.

Asking us to stop using your information


You can ask us to stop using your information. However, if you ask us to stop using your information, we may not be able to provide you with all our services, such as emailing you newsletters and updates.

You can choose to opt out of having your email address provided to Google and Facebook for targeted advertising by emailing us with your request to connect@resteasier.net

Complaints


Rest Easier™ is committed to dealing quickly and appropriately with any privacy complaints. If you are concerned this privacy statement may have been breached or your privacy has been compromised, please email us immediately on connect@resteasier.net

We will disclose your Personal Information where required to do so by law or subpoena.

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
